BRGM (French Geological Survey – 1100 people) is the French public institution on Earth Science dedicated to the management of subsurface resources and water quality especially regarding groundwater contamination, monitoring and priorization of new substances of interest (brgm.fr/). BRGM activity is two sides: research and public policy support which also comes with a large panel of collaboration with the academic, regulatory and private sectors at a national and international levels. In addition, BRGM is a founder member of the international NORMAN Network, founded in February 2009, a non-profit association to enhance the exchange of information on emerging environmental substances (norman-network.net) and the national AQUAREF network which is a major player in implementation of chemical and bioindication methods in the frame of the WFD (aquaref.fr/).
